How to use the date difference calculator
Pick a start date and an end date. If you want the final day counted as well — for example when working out how many days a hotel booking or a rental covers — tick include the end date. Press Calculate difference and you will get the total number of days between the two dates, along with the gap expressed in years, months and days, the total in weeks and months, and the number of business days.
The order does not matter. If you enter the later date first, the calculator simply reports the absolute difference, so you always get a sensible positive number.
Why counting days is trickier than it looks
Subtracting one date from another sounds trivial, but three things quietly complicate it: months have different lengths, leap years add a day every four years, and there is the perennial question of whether to count one endpoint or both. CalcPond handles all three. It works on the real Gregorian calendar rather than a flat 30-day-month approximation, so a span that crosses February 29 is counted exactly, and the include-end-date toggle lets you choose the counting convention that fits your situation.
Inclusive vs. exclusive counting
This is the single most common source of "off by one" confusion. If an event runs from the 1st to the 5th, how many days is that? If you mean the gap between the dates, it is 4 days. If you mean how many calendar days the event occupies, it is 5, because both the 1st and the 5th count. Neither is wrong — they answer different questions. Leave the box unticked for the gap; tick it to count both endpoints.
Business days explained
The business-day figure counts only Mondays through Fridays, skipping every Saturday and Sunday in the range. This is how delivery windows, invoice payment terms, and project deadlines are usually measured. One honest limitation: the calculator does not subtract public holidays, because holidays differ from one country and region to the next. If your deadline lands near a national holiday, subtract those days yourself.
Worked example
From 1 January 2026 to 25 July 2026, the gap is 205 days. That is about 29 weeks, or roughly 6 months and 24 days. Of those 205 days, 147 fall on weekdays, so there are 147 business days in the span (before subtracting any holidays). Tick "include the end date" and the day total becomes 206.

How do I count the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later date. This calculator does it precisely, accounting for leap years and differing month lengths, and can include or exclude the final day.
What counts as a business day?
Business days are Monday through Friday. This tool counts them between your dates but does not subtract public holidays, which vary by country.
Does it include both the start and end dates?
By default it counts the gap, excluding the end date. Turn on "include end date" to count both endpoints, which adds one day.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. The calculation uses the real calendar, so February 29 in any leap year within the range is counted correctly.
